Skall Studio knitting pattern for our classic Sophie knit. (OBS this is NOT including yarn)

Singer and actress Jane Birkin has always been a style icon for us—with her feminine lace-trimmed blouses, jeans, men’s style coats, and timeless off-white cable-knit sweaters. She’s undoubtedly one of the women who has shaped our aesthetic, especially in the way she wore knitwear. That’s why it felt natural for us to focus on knitwear at Skall; and why the Sophie Knit was the very first design we created, making it especially meaningful. It’s a classic Skall piece, featuring subtle elements of cable knitting. The Sophie Knit has since become something of a phenomenon in the knitting community, even inspiring its own hashtag on Instagram. We find it incredibly moving that people around the world are knitting it, personalizing it, and making it their own.

½ CHEST CIRCUMFERENCE:  60 (62) cm

LENGTH:  59 cm

SLEEVE LENGTH: 46 cm

RECOMMENDED NEEDLES:  Circular needle 3.5 mm, 40 cm. Circular needles 3.5 mm and 4 mm, 80 cm.

YARN: Håndværksgarn (700) g (200 meters = 100 g) from Hjelholt Spinning Mill.

CONSTRUCTION

Each part is worked top-down. First, the back is worked flat. Then stitches are picked up along each shoulder for the front piece. The neckline is shaped with short rows before the front is joined and finished. Stitches are picked up at the armholes for the sleeves, which are worked in the round on circular needles. Likewise, stitches are picked up along the neckline, which is worked in ribbing in the round. Finally, the side seams are sewn together. Right and left sides refer to the blouse’s right and left sides.
